Information

471 PA Polyester Resin is a pre-accelerated, low viscosity polyester resin characterized by its rapid curing and excellent impregnation capabilities. It is specifically designed for applications requiring fast mold release times and is suitable for both hand-lay and spray methods. This resin is widely used in the automotive, marine, and resin concrete industries, providing a reliable and efficient solution for a variety of applications. It is also approved by Lloyd’s Register of Shipping for use in marine craft construction and meets the stringent requirements of BS 3532:1990, Type A.

Applications

1. Automotive Industry: Ideal for producing and repairing automotive components that demand quick curing times and durable performance.
2. Marine Industry: Approved by Lloyd’s Register of Shipping, making it suitable for constructing and repairing boats and other marine vessels.
3. Resin Concrete Applications.

Benefits

1. Rapid Curing: Offers fast hardening characteristics, significantly reducing mold release times and increasing production efficiency.
2. Low Viscosity: Ensures quick and thorough impregnation of reinforcements and fillers, leading to high-quality, consistent laminates.
3. Versatile Application: Suitable for both hand-lay and spray techniques, providing flexibility across different manufacturing processes.
4. Lloyd’s Register Approval: Certified for marine use, ensuring the resin meets high standards of quality and safety.
5. Compliance with Standards: Meets BS 3532:1990, Type A, underscoring its reliability and performance in demanding applications.
6. Temperature Resilience: Effective performance at standard workshop temperatures (18ºC - 20ºC), with options for post-curing to enhance properties further.

Usage Instructions

- Preparation: Allow the resin to attain workshop temperature (18ºC - 20ºC) before use.
- Catalyst Addition: Add 1% or 2% of Catalyst M (or Butanox M50) or, for high ambient temperatures, Catalyst O (or Interox LA3). Ensure thorough dispersion of the catalyst.
- Pot Life:
- 18 minutes at 15ºC
- 12 minutes at 20ºC
- 8 minutes at 25ºC

Storage and Handling

- Storage Conditions: Store in the dark, in suitable closed containers, ideally below 20ºC, and not exceeding 30ºC.
- Shelf Life: Recommended to be used within 3 months. Containers should be opened only immediately prior to use and kept in a horizontal position if stored outside.

To comply with Hazardous transport regulations, and to keep shipping costs low, larger amounts of this resin may be decanted into 5L containers or delivered on a pallet. Please read the Safety Data Sheet before use.

Q & A

Can i use this in a closed mould application?

Yes you can , due to its low viscosity it will flow quite well in a closed RTM tool, it is often used in companies using the 'Prestovac' system due to its low viscosity and short gel time enabling a high turn around of parts.

How much quicker is this compared to your standard Polyester Resin?

Compared to our standard Lloyds approved Polyester Resin:
Crystic 2414 PA , at 15 Deg C with 2% catalyst has a pot life of 43 minutes.
Crystic 471 PA , at 15 Deg C has a pot life of 18 minutes.
So, this resin is has a considerably quicker cure and benefits higher turn around of parts.
